The 2007 Peter Alliss Masters event kicked off with a cocktail reception at the Craw's Nest Hotel, Anstruther on Monday 8th October, followed by a welcoming dinner for all the golfers who would participate the following day, along with their guests. Following dinner, Kay Thomas - our Administration Manager - gave a light hearted but informative presentation about the activities of the charity, and the success in raising funds for chairs that the various participating clubs and individuals had had since the 2006 Peter Alliss Masters.

The 2007 "Masters" took place the following day, once again at the Golf House Club Elie, with some 90 players, including 8 ladies, representing 42 different golf clubs from right across the UK and Ireland. Each group had their photo taken with Peter Alliss, our Patron, before teeing off. Then Peter, acting as starter, announced each player before they took their first shot over the intimidating hill confronting them on the first tee.

Places in the tournament are earned by clubs and organisations raising money to purchase wheelchairs. Only male participants who have been awarded a place by their club can win the Green Jacket & Quaich. However, the field also included a number of guest players who had not earned such a place but nevertheless competed eagerly for the lesser prizes. There was also a prize for the top lady competing on a similarly earned place.

The weather, although dull with a bit of rain in the air, was, for a traditional links course, relatively benign, there being little or no wind. The tournament, played as a singles Stableford competition off 7/8ths handicap, saw Terry Frizelle, a 10 handicapper from the Castlerock GC in Northern Ireland, and first out, set the pace by achieving a score of 40 points. Although some came close throughout the day, nobody could catch him and he won the Gentlemen's competition, and hence the Green Jacket, by one point from second placed Billy Peattie (39 points) and David Hilary (also 39 points). In the Ladies competition, a strong back nine of 20 points enabled Karen O'Neill from Sandiway GC, playing off a handicap of 8, to become champion with a score of 35 points beating Barbara Rowe, a guest from Stoke by Nayland GC, on a card play off over the back nine holes. Terry Frizelle was also in great form on the putting green where he achieved a clean sweep by winning the 18 hole putting competition. A full list of the results can be found by clicking on the "List of Winners" link.

Everyone was provided with lunch in the clubhouse following which Peter Alliss, along with representatives of the donating clubs, presented 4 powered wheelchairs to children from various parts of Scotland. The chairs were funded by Helsby GC, The Crown Public House in Smallburgh, Norfolk and from monies raised at the hugely successful Hugh Campbell Classic Golf Tournament held in Ireland. It had been planned to present six chairs in total but unfortunately two of the children could not make it to the presentation. Their chairs will of course be delivered to them as soon as possible.

The evening saw everyone back at the Craw's Nest Hotel for the usual dinner and prize presentation. Peter Alliss, rather than giving his usual address, participated in an interesting and amusing question and answer session, on a range of golf related topics. He then presented Terry Frizelle with his Green Jacket along with the traditional Scottish Quaich followed by prizes to all the other successful participants.

A £10 sweep then really did prove that it was Terry Frizelle's day when he picked up the top prize of 2 nights accommodation with dinner at the Craw's Nest and yet another round on the Elie course. An auction of donated prizes then brought the total raised during the evening to a superb £3,900 - sufficient to purchase yet another wheelchair for a needy child.
