On 21st June this year - the longest day - Helsby Golf Club's Captain Martin Mann and Ladies Captain Sheila Fenwick aim to play golf in 4 countries in 1 day to raise funds for the Powered Wheelchair Appeal.
The courses they aim to play all in the same day are:-
Here is a personal account of the plan from Martin:-
"I have spent a great deal of time planning the event. At first it entailed playing a course in Belfast, flying to Liverpool, playing Helsby then Padeswood & Buckley and finally Scotland. Doing it that way would have saved two valuable hours but I did want the 72nd hole to be the 18th at Helsby.
Last July before the Turnberry Open I played Wigtownshire County Golf Course. I then crossed to Larne and played the nearest course to the Port, namely Cairndhu just outside Larne and played that beautiful mountainous course.
The Secretary of Ciarndhu welcomed Theresa and I and all that the Powered Wheelchair Appeal stood for. He promised to travel the 20 miles from his home to open the gates at Cairndhu at 3.30am on June 21st 2010 to let Sheila and I in. Hugh Logue truly is an excellent man. Likewise the Management of Wigtownshire County and Padeswood & Buckley Golf Clubs are all supporting this worthy cause and have offered their courses to Sheila and I.
