Since the Peter Alliss Masters Powered Wheelchair Crusade started in 1988, some £5 million had been raised by golf clubs and other organisations to buy chairs for the benefit of needy children across the UK and Ireland. Then in 2006, the Peter Alliss Masters organisation gained registered charitable status and implemented a new Golf Chair Scheme through which clubs buy their chairs for donation. The chart above shows the number and value of those chairs passing through the scheme since then.
The first year of the Peter Alliss Masters Golf Chair scheme is now complete and has been a resounding success. 13 different golf clubs and organisations bought and donated 67 chairs to a value of £212,000 throught the facility in 2007. The significant benefit that the scheme offers is that the 8 dealers who participated were able to supply chairs best suited to the children's needs by selecting them from 7 different manufacturers, rather than just the one that the previous arrangement required.
